Sunday Lunch Sessions: Sunday 19th May 2024

This event includes both 'AI! Lets Go! Lunchtime Talk With Alex Sabine' and 'LO FI AI: How Can We Teach AI?' as well as a delicious homemade lunch.

AI is seen as an inevitable change to which all must respond, after all we are already big consumers of AI. it’s in our phones, devices or making suggestions for products to buy. But is AI a friend or foe and how could it influence our future? Alex Sabine (University of Portsmouth) talks about the emergence of new technologies and its impact on our realities.

After lunch there will be a workshop led by designer-researchers Lily McCraith and Soul Miles.

Imagine AI as a student, and us as its teachers. But who teaches the teachers? This project explores how we educate both the AI itself and the people who shape it.

Participants will explore how Artificial Intelligence’s are trained by creating a collaborative dataset of hundreds of images of apples. You will chop, dice, juice, scan, draw and squash apples to make this dataset together. A handmade dataset is an unusual, slow and collaborative process there will be time and space for participants to explore ethical insights about how AI is trained.

Lily McCraith is a designer, artist & researcher, making work about technology, people and ecology. She also has a background in computer science, which feeds into her practice.

Soul Miles is a design-researcher, educator and writer. His work revolves around how technologies will produce politics inevitably and accidentally.

Together, both events will run from 12pm-4pm
